Justice for Samuel Luiz: beautifully moving art tributes created worldwide
Samuel Luiz, a 24 year old nursing student, was killed in A Coruña, Spain, this week. Luiz was brutally attacked by over a dozen people, alleged to have been abusing him with physical violence and homophobic slurs.
The horrifying, inhumane assault and murder has sparked international outrage and sadness, with thousands taking to the streets to show their solidarity and support of justice for Luiz, who was devastatingly killed during Pride weekend in northwestern Spain.
Spanish police have announced that investigations into the murder are ongoing, and that they have arrested three people as they continue their enquiries.
The details of the hate crime are astonishingly brutal, and creatives around the world are expressing their pain and anger through their artwork.
We know that art can be therapeutic, and the process of both creating and consuming it can be healing. Of course, these expressions are not going to remove pain or bring Luiz back, but we’ve been moved by the gorgeous, powerful representations the global creative community has produced.
