A Quick & Reassuring Refresher on Ello’s Data Policies
There’s been a lot of hype lately about social networks mining and abusing their communities’ data. That’s why we’re taking a moment to remind you that Ello takes your data very seriously.
As a network that does not serve advertisements and that does not sell information about its users to third parties, Ello has also taken unique steps that help you control how much information about you is shared when you use our site.
Not into data policy chatter? Go check out some art or something.
What do we collect?

Mainly, your email address and a User ID, as well as general, anonymized data about the pages you visit and what device you’re using. This information informs future development, enables us to improve Ello’s features and helps protect the site (and you guys) from abuse, spam, viruses, and other illicit activity.

Ello uses anonymized analytics tools, such as Google Analytics, to collect general information about user behavior. The information gathered by Google on Ello’s behalf is collected in such a way that neither Ello, nor Google, can easily trace saved information back to any individual.
Ello is unique in that we offer our members the option to opt-out of Google Analytics on the member settings page. We also respect “Do Not Track” browser settings. On your settings page, you can choose to turn Google Analytics off completely.
