Multiple fatalities reported in London high-rise fire
More than 200 firefighters battled a massive blaze and evacuated residents from a burning 24-floor high-rise apartment building in northwest London early Wednesday morning.
Multiple fatalities and injuries were confirmed, but London's Metropolitan Police did not provide specific numbers. London Mayor Sadiq Khan said on Twitter that a major incident had been declared.
Tim Downie, who lives near the fire, told Britain's Press Association that he feared the Grenfell Tower block could collapse. Downie said he heard sirens, helicopters and shouting and then saw the building engulfed in flames.
"It's the most terrifying thing I've ever seen. I just hope they have got everyone out," he said. "People have been bringing water, clothes, anything they've got to help, out to the cordon."
