The corridors in this long abandoned psychiatric hospital in northern Italy were something to behold. People often say asylums have a sinister or sad atmosphere about them, particularly abandoned ones. But this one was very serene and calming. As we slowly explored and took photographs the sounds of the sleepy town waking up beyond the walls drifted in through the shuttered windows. The clang of a church bell or a car driving past but other than these distant disconnected sounds it was just the sound of your breathing and feet against tiled floors. Very relaxing and something that fed my soul and lingers long in my memories. Isn't that what life is in the end, simply a collection of memories? All the more reason to make them vivid and full of feeling and emotion.
