Botticelli’s Venus stands
So self possessed upon her shell
Covering her nakedness with modest palm
Unruffled by the windy gods
The proffered mantle could not hide
The rarest beauty brought alive.
If only life could be like this
Beauty floating on flower strewn seas
Standing brave against the wind
A subtle shade of gentle love
And so the love I have for you
Must stand as firm in beauty’s eye
But with this last reality
That love transcends the fairest flesh.
