This Glint of Freedom
by Notty Bumbo, 2015
You must break free from me,
From my obsidian dramas,
The harkening back to failed portals
leading nowhere worth mentioning.
You must end this sordid dependance
On things seeking your demise,
You tragic fall from grace and eloquence.
If it is me who remains your anchor,
Cast aside the chain,
Let the tides take charge,
Be instead the wind's quiet memory,
Lifting wings against tomorrow.
Whatever holds you fast,
Chafe against that slavemaster,
Beholden to none as none are to you.
I will no longer fight to retain your obedience,
The chains I bear are heavy enough.
There are gems in the earth I hope to discover.
Perhaps you are one of them.
