✨Hi pals, after seeing a few informative posts from @claydisarray on Instagram sharing the fact that both Fimo and Sculpey brand clays are no longer a vegan friendly product I took interest into finding a clay that might be....
I emailed Kato polyclay manufacturers and found out they are against animal cruelty and engineer their products to be vegan, green and animal friendly as possible (see slides for the email) I got some samples from them and I wanted to share my thoughts:
Kato and sculpto (beige) firm are the ones I received.
They are both a firmer clay (which I prefer) it may take a little effort to condition it by hand but a pasta roller makes that easier with any clay so I don't see this as an issue.
They both hold shape and details amazingly well without smooshing too easily while sculpting. (I'd say it's a firmer Premo for those of you who are familiar with using it- if you like sculpey 3 you may have difficulty with it as sculpey 3 is one of the softest clays).
The colors are vibrant, it blends gradients and mixes up swirls well. Uncured it has a minute odor of a vinyl (like a pool toy) it doesn't bother me and I'm sensitive to strong odor. It cures with no lingering smell.
The cured result colors stay true to unbaked colors and it's equally durable to Premo ....if not stronger. (I've bashed and thrown so many pieces around. testing them out, lol!)
I wanted to share this because I've been using Premo under false pretenses that is was vegan friendly according to their site (which was changed after I emailed them).
I will be making the switch to using vegan friendly Kato polyclay for future works. Being a vegetarian/vegan for over 10 years it's important to try to use vegan/green/animal friendly products if/when possible and I wanted to share this for other who may be interested too!
Thanks to @claydisarray for making me aware of this and please see her page for posts and a petition for making fimo vegan again. She also mentioned Cernit brand is also vegan but I haven't heard from them or been able to try it out to share my findings or review )
