Writing Is Life
Bouncing off this post by the magnificent Tanya Simone Simpson!
If you could magically make one of your WIPs be finished and ready for publication, which would you choose?
My first novel, Everything Fails. Revising it for the fifth time now. So ready to publish it.
Who is your favorite character you’ve written and why?
Hmm. Klava, I guess. She's vulnerable but tough and heartless. I mean, she can pretend at caring but there's not much in there. She's meaner and dumber than most of my characters, but she lives free.
The Reptile is also crazy fun to write because he says such crazy shit all the time and is such a pain in the ass.
What is the most terrible thing you’ve done to a character?
Klava cuts this dude's ears off in Love Is What You Have. That bothered me so much I have almost taken it out several times.
TVS does something pretty horrible at the end of We Can Never Go Back just because I couldn't think of a different ending.
What character or work are you most disappointed with or you want to go back and rework?
T Van Santana 😂 No, I'm kidding! I'm kidding! I think ...
Karin I cut out because she doesn't work. I can't say I'm disappointed, tho. Madame Grange I cut from EF but worked her back in later.
I was a bit disappointed with Daresay Millon (what?) But I can live with it. Khan Manning completely disappointed. I dunno if he's workable or not. They're both in We Can Never Go Back.
Pick a theme song for your main character of your current WIP.
Jeez. I have so many playlists and a theme for each book, but not my first novel. "I Want To Know What Love Is" probably is the best overall.
What is a trope or cliche you’re embarrassed to say you used?
Any of them? I especially hate damseling, so hopefully I've not done that. It would be massively embarrassing.
A wizard tells you that if you stop writing forever, one of your other dreams will 100% come true right now. Would you do it?
Just one? No way. All of them? ... maybe
What do you do when you’re not writing?
Mostly watch tv & movies, read, play games, eat secrets and take care of muh cats & kids. When I can, I talk to friends, which is muh fave. Oh, and Ello. Loads of Ello.
If you could show anyone (alive or dead) your work, who would it be?
Toss up between David Bowie, David Lynch, and Harlan Ellison.
What is the most stressful thing you have ever written?
In terms of creative writing, I think T Van Santana & The Black Book of Fear. For obvious reasons. But they're all kina stressful.
