Black Health Matters
i have been diagnosed with bipolar ii, ptsd, generalized anxiety disorder, and lots of somatic stuff. most of what i post is about how awful that is and how horribly institutions treat me. the good news (for me) is that i pass for white. most of the people i have to directly interact with see me as special, fragile, delicate, tragic, adorably neurotic, or some kind of romantic, tortured magical genius, artist, or ironic prophet. i don't think i am any of those things and i don't think that i act like them, but i'm not sure how i would have gotten by without that public perception.
i know it's not like that for black women because i keep up with current events. if you are black and suffer with mental health issues, please tell us your story. tell us what they called you and what they did to you. it is not your shame. YOU are socially and historically important persons and what you have to say is precious.
