TVS Gives Another Self-Indulgent Concession Speech
that no one asked for
Well, NaNoWriMo 2016 is done. And though I clicked out a paltry 15,000 words for my lowest monthly total in three years in (or out) of a NaNo event, I'm feeling pretty good.
"How come, Teevs?" you ask.
A lotta reasons.
First is that I have no strong feelings about it one way or another. That's a solid 'win' for me. Last time I lost, I stopped writing the book. Time before that, I stopped writing the series. Both times my ego ached and I questioned my ability to keep writing. Not so this time. Not even a little. I'll take that.
Second, a lotta bad shit happened this month. Most of it election-related, some of it personal. That I was able to work at my own slow-but-steady pace and attend to myself emotionally is a big deal for me. The book didn't come first. I came first, and the folks I care about.
Third, a lotta great stuff happened this month. I finally made it out to California, which was a twenty year dream made real. I met @meg, my very first meet up evs, and it was wonderful! I went to NaNoWriMo's Night of Writing Dangerously in San Francisco with one of my best friends and had a great time writing my novel with 150+ other Wrimos. My second son has recovered completely from his rocky start and is now tracking ahead developmentally. He also grew two inches this month. He's a big kid :) My oldest is doing very well, too, and we had some nice quality time together this month.
Fourth, I've got a really solid plan for this book. I outline and reoutline probably more than I write. (Thanks to Ksen for all those posts on outlining and turning @kseniaanske.) Sure it's taking me longer, but it's a calmer process.
Yeah, Thanksgiving also happened, which is a mixed bag, and the anniversary of my ex's suicide was this month, but those are every November.
Anyhow, I'm happy with it. Did muh best. Thanks to all y'all who gave support. Hope you're liking the book. Shout at me about it whenever.
