Instruments of Will
Viri went down by the water's edge, met the assassin. "Hey, there."
"You the boss?" the assassin said.
"I'm their proxy."
The assassin sighed. "I only deal direct."
"Then call me the boss," Viri said with a smile. She handed over a small black rectangle. "It's all there."
The assassin took it, pocketed it. "This is non-refundable."
Viri chuckled, looked at the water. "You know they say this city is alive."
"Who are they?"
"Folks. They say the city dreams and as it does, we work its will."
The assassin shrugged. "Suits me fine."
"Yeah. I hope it's true. God forgive me, otherwise."
"God doesn't mind, girlie. She knows the score."
