The Kiss that can get you killed.
Love is love. When two kindred spirits share a bond that transcends the physicality of being & when the depth of their affection ascends to the highest of heights, they enter the realm of love.
This is the idea behind writing rounded characters who move beyond the stereotypical tropes often associated with many modern screenplays. I wrote a script which includes two really good friends falling in love.
I naturally assumed that my open minded view of 'Love' was universal until I tried to distribute my latest film STASH outside of Europe & America.
I have been told that having two women kissing or having a love affair that is as intellectual as it is emotional will get me killed.
For a few weeks, I actually tried to think of ways to remove the Agatha & Temilade characters from my debut low budget crime drama, but I decided to keep them in for the most basic of reasons.
I believe in Love. I believe in your right to love whom so ever you deem fit. I believe that if two consenting adults take the already difficult path of Love with another, that is a story worthwhile of screen time.
The image above is a kiss that can get you killed in many countries around the world. Emotional expression is a basic human right but for some reason, people can get violent when two adults choose each other outside of the gender prisons so many are forced to conform to.
So today I salute all of you who love inside & outside of the artificial social barriers placed on us all. I love my partner & I would never let anyone dictate if I should or not so why would I want to dictate to another? It feels so backward & unmodern.
Today, I decided to keep an essential part of my overall crime drama intact because I believe in all types of Love.
STASH is coming...❁
