How to ALWAYS Succeed with Your New Year's Resolutions
Yes, I know what you're thinking: "Damn! It's time for another year of utter failure to achieve my New Year's resolutions!"
I feel your pain, but thankfully I no longer must share your agony. I have, through arduous trial and error, discovered the secret to ALWAYS (yes, I mean every single year) achieving my resolutions. And in an abundance of New Year's benevolence, I'm going to share my secret with you in this post!
Here are three ways to make New Year's resolutions which you can always achieve:
1. Make a resolution that sounds profound but is actually easy to achieve.
My 2017 New Year's resolution is: "In 2017, I will share with strangers something of importance."
Wow! This sounds deep, almost spiritual, doesn't it? How will I ever achieve such a glorious resolution?
Guess what... I've already accomplished this resolution by writing this post and sharing this incredible knowledge with you! The trick was that I left the interpretation of what is "important" up to myself. This is fair because, after all, it's my resolution, right?
So I've already achieved my 2017 resolution, and I can slack off the rest of this year. Now, that's what I'm talking about, people!
2. Make a resolution that is bold but vague.
My 2016 New Year's resolution was: "I will clean up my act in 2016."
How audacious and wonderful this sounds, right?! The beauty of this type of resolution is that you can achieve it in any number of easy ways because, once again, you have left the definition up to yourself.
To accomplish this resolution, I cleaned out the bottom drawer of my office desk -- basically, I threw away everything in there without looking at it because I never put anything important in it in the first place. Voila! I achieved my 2016 resolution in less than a minute. Instant success in 2016!
3. Make a resolution which is the achievement of itself.
This is what I call the "self-achieving resolution". It is the pinnacle of New Year's resolutions because you achieve success simply by stating the resolution, and you don't need to do anything else at all to accomplish it! Here are a few examples:
"I will be more assertive this year."
Boom! You were more assertive this year just by making that resolution. No more effort required -- you can coast the rest of this year!
"I will be more thoughtful this year."
Wham! You were more thoughtful just by creating that resolution. You can take it easy the rest of this year!
"I will make a better resolution this year."
Zap! This is the ultimate resolution, better than any other -- just by stating it, you achieved it because there is no resolution better than the resolution to make a better resolution! You can goof off the rest of this year. (And you can use this same resolution every other year because it will always be better than the previous year's resolution. It's like magic, right?!)
There you have it, my friends -- the secret to resolution success. Now, we can all start our New Year basking in the sweet satisfaction of having achieved our resolutions!
