I have always known these bars.
They are the boundary of my experience,
The limit on my thought, imagination.
The world as I know it.
Once I found a gate, a gap,
An opening to another world.
I flew free, sang joyously.
A net, grasping hands, a return.
Now I see the world differently,
A pet, a prisoner,
All day I sing in my prison.
I sing because I can.
