My name is Kill Joy and I am a Filipino-American artist living in Mexico City. The pieces I have submitted talk about community and the lack of community specifically in relation to people of color. They address the -bayanihan- , or unity and harmony, within tribal societies as well as the threat and consequences of a monolithic white-supremacist culture imposed upon our societies. It is my goal in my work to uplift and support the voices of marginalized groups of people. Artist grants help me continue daily resistance such as hosting political art workshops and street interventions. They also just help me survive as a self-realized artist in a modern capitalist world.
