Center of the World
2014, installation, cast earth, steel, neon.
The “world” is generally referred to as the habitable surface of the Earth. A center point cannot be placed on the surface of a sphere, unlike on a flat circle or the interior middle of a sphere. Therefore no one point can define the center of the world.
Any point or place can literally be deemed the “Center of the World”.
And since anyplace can be the Center of the World, I made my own.
I marked it with a bright neon sign.
I deem this place, here, to be the Center of the World.
