I often pass by this huge tree on my bus rides to school, and would think to myself 'this is such an awesome tranquil nook to spend some quality time at, I should go sit under it'. Then school and work took over, and I chucked the idea at the back of my head.
I was in the neighborhood last weekend and recalled a giant tree that I had wanted to sit under, and wondered if it was still around. Walked about the neighborhood, and sure enough, came upon that same old quiet spot that caught my eye ten years ago.
I did sit under the enormous tree, and while under its magical canopy, got to listen to the tiny fruits that fell to the ground. I even got to learn that it was a Moreton Bay Fig that was at least 142 years old.
If you were wondering, I did do some test sampling of the figs that dropped. Google says they are edible, but are not pleasant to taste. I say they taste like subtly sweet raw quinoa.
It was an immensely late date with this special friend, but I am glad I got to visit it and learn all the interesting and fun facts about it.
