Wrapping my head around the new CRTC regulations on Canadian content.
Online Canadians compete well for eyeballs on content we create and produce on channels that we've built, but on television there are gatekeepers that pick the content. Do these new rules mean that fewer Canadians will be given the opportunity to create and as such less Canadian content will be made available to the viewer?
If so, what is the impact on Canadian culture and on Canadian creators?
Ultimately this also asks the questions of do those gatekeepers value Canadian content less (even though for online content creators, we know that our content is well received world wide)? Going back to that notion that we as Canadian constantly feel the need to apologize for ourselves. And will this ultimately impact the amount of funding available for Canadian content?
