The greeks believed that the moon rose at night thanks to Selene, goddess of the moon, and her carriage of horses. One day on her job she saw a man (Endymion) sleeping among his sheep, and feel in love with him in an instant. Without missing a beat she pleaded Zeus to give him immortality and he did.
