When Zeus and the other Olympians brought war to overthrow the Titans some of the Titans decided to turn on their own. Epimetheus, Titan god of afterthought and excuses was one of them. He's credited with creating animals alongside his brother, Prometheus, who created mankind. It's thanks to Epimetheus' poor planing that humans gained intelligence. Sort of. When he gave all the gifts they had to the animals, like flying and sharp teeth, he left nothing for mankind. Forcing Prometheus to invent the gift of intelligence to give to humans.
