A Street Through A Museum, Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam March 2017.
The old Rijksmuseum was a part of my youth - a favourite Sunday afternoon thing to do with my dad, we lived within little-legs walking distance. Probably, you have to know it what a lovable but labyrintine mess it was, to understand the genius of the 2003-2013 make-over. The two cluttered, built-in courtyards have been turned into the transparant, connecting central space at -1 level that you see above, and the murky through-way for pedestrians and bicycles has been turned into the spectacular transparent bridge in the centre. It's really something to see bicycles and bicycle-rickshaws flashing through it from the atrium floor. This was always a museum that I loved like family, but now I'm excited as well. I hope this photo conveys something of that emotion.
