“Canopic Jar”, 2018. little eyes and organic distorted forms surrounding and consuming the piece. other photos to come. this is the finished form though :) the underglaze got a little crackly in a couple places in the glaze firing but i don’t really mind. the interior was a light yellow layered over a deeper shade, and it ended up comin out alright i think :) some visible brush strokes but i kinda wanted those to be shown. somethin about functional ware that looks inviting to handle because it’s been handled. like where you can see the artist’s marks and the little unexpected idiosyncrasies of the forms. that’s a sweet dynamic i explore in some of my work. this piece was really experimental and just a sweet exploration. just over 2 ft tall so super fun and sorta overwhelming to decorate. beginning a color study mini collection (will be functional), so this sort of color contrast and visual texture i explored in this piece was a cool transition into upcoming work.
