Yesterday we took a drive up to Abiquiu, Georgia O'Keefe's stomping grounds. While the shrubbery was going gold and red the trees are mostly evergreens so in a week or so we'll head east into the Jemez Mountains to see if we can get some fall images. But it was a lovely trip anyway. Noticed some small galleries we'll visit in the future. The town itself is on uphill side of mountain, with small narrow dirt roads and the first area you come to when you drive up there seems like little more than a large family compound, except for the Catholic church which is the largest building and has a somewhat wild garden.
Directly across from the turn off to Abiquiu itself there is a little general store, Bode's which sells groceries, fishing supplies, bait, postcards and books (more on that in another post)as well as some local crafts---woven and carved. They also have a small sit down cafe within their walls, and the tables were covered with oilcloths decorated in Mexican folk art style with vibrant colors.
That one in the lower right corner is my favorite.
Next time i'll have to try their food.
