For me nature is my strongest link to 1) that childlike sense of 'wonder' and 2) my core self. Not just one environment, ecosystem---any of them. The first time i lived in New Mexico was right after having lived in Hawaii. Most people could not understand how it could not be a 'downgrade'. But i find beauty in all ecosystems. They each have their own unique beauty if you just look receptively. Now i live in NM again. A big factor in my choice of homes was the land, the terrain and view that came with this one.
When i need to recharge i have only to go on 'walkabout' around my property. There is always something new to discover. Last summer we had more rain and wildflowers sprang up that we didn't see the first two summers here. i delighted in them.
Year round there is my eastern horizon, the Jemez Ridge. it has many looks and i take a lot of photos of it, and of moon and clouds with it. Sometimes i step out at night when putting dogs out or letting them in and just breathe, look up and give thanks for being here.
Believe it or not the image below is a full moon over my beloved Jemez Ridge. No matter how difficult a day i've had a few moments really looking at my surroundings restores me to myself.
