I think the inspiring thing about Ello is that it makes you feel like someone simply goes out there and publicly tries something. We're not used to that anymore. It's like moving in while the house is still being constructed. You don't know if the patchwork roof will hold and what about the heating?!! No matter if it will succeed or fail or sell out one day, I'm already thankful for having got that feeling back for a couple of days.
Also it's amazing how emotionally worked up it gets some people. Like "it will not work anyway, I'd rather stick with the devil I know". Fear of another crushed hope, or no hope at all and all cynical. While I am still in a "fail again, fail better" relationship with social networks. Don't make me grow up. Porous borders, migration, fluidity, ephemerality - all of those are things our relationship with social media could do more with.
But now srsly: What about the heating?!
