Please remember in that this is a wonderful time of year! But not so for those pets that are given as gifts and then gotten rid of when they are no longer wanted or the fad has worn off. Please think before getting your kid a pet for Christmas or any holiday. Is your kid really ready? Are you ready to take care of said pet when your child does not take care of it. Remember a pet is a life time commitment. Not a thing to get rid of when the fad fades away. Here is a short free verse I wrote a few years ago about how I feel and how others feel who care for all animals and try to help them.
The Love of a Pet
by Joy Kaletta
Dear Pet Owner,
When you get your pet, do you really love it?
Do you consider it a part of your family?
Are you committed to keeping the pet until it's life is through?
Are you really ready to own this loving pet?
Are you a child?
You do not get a pet to just sale it when you get bored of it.
You do not get a pet to just let it starve.
You do not get a pet to just sale it for more then you got it for.
You do not get a pet and then decide to return it to the pet store.
You do not get a pet to just feed it to your other pet.
You do not get a pet when you just plan to harm it.
You are taking in a living thing.
A living creature.
A loving creature.
A creature God made.
A creature who needs food.
This baby can not tell you when they are sad.
Or when they want love.
They can hint at these things.
But they can not tell you.
Get them help when they need it.
Don't give up on them.
They would not give up on you.
And they love you more than they love themselves.
The love of a pet.
