Bertrand Goldberg | Chicago | Marina City
My uncle since passed, Myron Austin, the only architect in the family other than myself, collaborated with Bertrand Goldberg to design and develop the well known paired residential towers in Chicago, Marina City. At that time, he was employed with the James McHugh Construction Company before he later had his own practice. These towers were the tallest reinforced concrete structures in the world. I learned a great deal from my uncle and will always be proud to have grown with his wisdom. Austin was responsible for not only designing the concrete formwork which composed these structures, but also the design of the equipment which carefully removed these forms. I'm currently researching with my aunt to locate drawings and images of his efforts. Stay tuned if interested.
