"The Soul of Man Under Late Capitalism, #20, #25 & #34" by Douglas Rainwater (No No No No No)
Digital artwork created with manipulation of original photographs by myself and text from various works by Karl Marx in Processing and Adobe Photoshop. Throughout my work, I tend to focus on the broken, the glitched, the surreal and the unnoticed beauty and contradictions which surround us all in our daily lives. For this series, I have been re-visiting my love of 90s grunge and minimal design aesthetics and updating it by integrating it with my current love of glitch art-based techniques to highlight the disconnect between an economic system which supposedly promises plenty and opportunity for all yet is increasingly concentrating wealth and power in the hands of an ever-diminishing few. We all know our system is failing the majority in society yet we seem unable to conceive of anything that could take its place. The disconnected, broken scenes in this series highlight this fact.
