When Obama came up as a serious Presidential candidate, I had doubts. Who was he? What was his record? Could we risk it?
My liberal friends came at me: what the fuck is wrong with you? This is huge! This is an opportunity to elect a black man President, which is a big thing!
It was not so much for the world I personally live in. I'm 49 now and always lived in a world where our President could be black, or a woman. I'm just waiting for you all to catch up.
Eventually, I did have to agree: electing a black man as President was a big thing for the country I live in. But I do not like to admit how backward everyone else is.
I can't regret voting for Obama (For God's sake let's think about McCain/Palin) but I also have to accept that it was a long game.
Obama is on course to replace Clinton as the best Republican President of my lifetime.
And I want to say there is hope but there is not, at least not right away.
Republicans will take over in 2016, take more power away from people and give to the rich. More and more middle class workers will wonder where their money went, and point to the people who have no money rather than the people who have all of it.
There is no hope, Princess. Anyone who says otherwise is selling something.
