A lot of my free time has been taken setting up my 3D Printer. I am starting to think that the main use for a 3D-Printer is printing parts to replace parts on the printer that the original manufacture forgot to add or just got plain wrong.
I'm printing PLA plastic, largely because it's pleasant to work with and because it's biodegradeable.
PLA However requires additional cooling for the part, usually provided by an additional fan and manifold on the printer. This was entirely absent. I've printed one, but since I printed this manifold without the a cooling manifold (obviously) it's a little rough and ready and I shall have to print another finer one now that I have the rough manifold. I guess that's called bootstrapping.
Absent too were adjustable feet, proper filament guides and a host of tiny details. Still, it's all grist to the mill - and with each part I'm refining not just the machine but the printing workflow.
