I hate wasting #food!
One of the items in our larder that most often gets thrown out is bread leftovers. I'm always on the look out for way to convert this into something tasty so I'm looking for recipes and am hoping that you've got some good ones.
I'll start with something simple to show what I mean: After the New Year festivities we were left with almost a whole ciabatta loaf (italien crusty white bread), it had been warmed in the oven and was a couple of days old and so not to put too fine a point on it (although, in fact, you probably could have put a very fine point on it indeed) this bread was hard.
In a sudden fit of nibbles induced inspiration I popped it onto our rotary slicer (a wonderful, old-fashioned, hand cranked affair) set the blade to cut 3 mm slices and reduced it to a pile of chips. I laid the chips out on baking trays and sparingly brushed them with olive oil, sprinkled them with salt and crushed pepper, and slid them into the oven at 200°C for about 10 Minutes.
Result crispy, olivey, salty, peppery bread chips. Omnomnom!
Keeps for ages in an airtight tin, too.
I look forward to any "leftover bread" recipes that you might be willing to share.
