Spent the day repairing the receiver of my portable SW transceiver. Didn't have a Oscilloscope so I did it what a friend of mine calls "Russian Style" - that is using another receiver to follow the signals within the radio.
It took me a little longer than it should have because I forgot one of the cardinal rules of fixing stuff - "always start in the the middle". You see, if the signal arrives at the intermediate stage intact you can be sure that everything up to that point (ie. the first half of the circuit) is OK.
I really enjoyed working on a bit of analogue kit though!
