"Something's missing" or Pretty Me Pieces (April 2017)
I get that, that's how I felt before I met You.
I had all these shiny, scattered pretty Me pieces,
That looked like beautiful parts
Of a pretty, good, successful life.
But no matter how I rearranged them
On my blank white canvas,
They wouldn't quite fit together,
Because something was missing.
Then You stepped into the spotlight
(Do not some of the greatest stories
Begin when a foolish man,
Meets a life-changing woman?),
And the world had had a different quality to my eye.
The pretty Me pieces, "Who," "What," "When," and "Where,"
Added up, and were tied together by a great, big "Why."
I fell in love.
Yet, we're a pair of old bone dice,
Rolling and bouncing on two separate lines.
All my chips are down on hard twelve
And I'm showing six black dots, and You're not;
I'm losing it all, but You can still have anything I've got.
Life ain't all sevens and elevens,
But in Your face I still see Heaven,
And I suspect God dropped You on my path,
To make me believe in miracles,
Like the way Your hands look just like mine,
How Your head fits into the hollow of my shoulder,
Electric kisses, or how I no longer fear getting older.
I will always love you,
Because True Love Waits,
And Forgiveness knows no greater triviality,
Than showing up a bit late.
