I was talking to a nurse who works at Stanford hospital the other day. She is a senior nurse, and has worked there for over 30 years.
She casually mentioned that while seeing people suffer is something she has gotten used to, seeing an animal suffer is almost unbearable for her.
I have heard many people echo similar sentiments, and it makes me wonder why this is. Most of the people who have mentioned this usually mention that they see animals as innocent creatures. I remember being a kid and I couldn't bear to see anything bad happen to an animal in a movie, but that feeling has kind of gone away with time (I see it as an annoying 'shock value' tactic in movies these days.)
Personally, I feel about equal on dogs, cats, and lizards. I don't see anything particularly innocent about them, except the lack the ability to manipulate and decieve. Humans are the ones I sympathize with the most. Anyways, just curious what you guys think!
