Has it only been 2 months since my last post? Feels a lot longer...
Anyways, wanted to do some more code writeup. The past 2 months have been hectic at work and a result of that is my coding and workflow has gotten sloppy. I have old, new, and beta versions of code all in one folder, I have stopped using Git for version control, and my dev site has bits of old code and new code in it.
So as I sit at my desk at 9:30am on this Monday morning and stare at my list of projects and the mess of code I have before me, I realize I have to get this cleaned up now before it gets worse.
My plan is to get all of this done today and still have time to work on extra projects so it looks like I was productive. Crunch time!
First things first, I restore the dev site to a previous backup. I may lose some beta code, but it'll take too much time to see what I should save and what I should not. Then I upload all the new code I have locally to the dev site. While this is going on I grab a donut and work on some smaller tasks.
That's done and I download all the copies of what's on my dev site and live site into their respective folders. Now, the code is all organized. Next step is to figure out the Git/Deploy workflow.
I quickly figure out how I had BitBucket and Docker setup. Once I pushed any changed to BB, Docker would deploy those to the test site. However, I noticed it never deployed to the live site so I'll have to fix that. And the deployment worked!
The last step is I'll have to reorganize my local files AGAIN because of how Git is setup. Then I'll add a pipeline so that Docker will deploy to the live site which I'll schedule once a day.
