Phillipp is co-founder of the Berlin/Leipzig based Design Studio BBlamage.
He doesn’t want to talk that much about his work — as many others he hopes his work speaks for itself.
In his opinion graphic design shouldn’t be about aesthetical questions in the first place, but about finding solutions and before that, about finding the problem.
Design shouldn’t be a question of how it looks. Phillipp tries to make himself free from such questions because the aesthetical taste of a viewer depends on things that he can’t influence: age, gender, education, cultural background, the time we live in, fashion trends, etc. Designs that are avant garde today could be old fashion tomorrow, it doesn’t make sense to him to look after trends.
Phillipp has studied type design at the academy of visual arts Leipzig. Today he uses that knowledge to improve his graphic design work. Typefaces are tools and now he can craft his own ones and doesn’t have to look around for fonts to buy — he makes them by himself. He believes that a good understanding of typography is fundamental for good graphic design.
