Artist Greg Foley–@gregfoley–a Grammy-nominated album cover designer and one of the founding members of Visionaire, V Magazine, VFiles, and the co-author / illustrator of the recently published book COOL: Style, Sound, and Subversion (Rizzoli)––has been obsessed with the colors we see everywhere around us. His recent work reveals the changing nature of color through nuanced abstraction. As he says, “stealing the light and color” from its source and representing it in a similar medium. In his most recent series, Foley explore some of the more important 12” records from his personal history. “As anyone’s musical appreciation evolves over decades, the influence of album packaging can form strong associations for each age,” Foley says. “Lately I’m revisiting both albums and singles that transport me to a different era.” For the first time, Foley is creating abstract audio tracks that accompany his visual art. The resulting series will represent a complete “sense memory” of the records he interpreted, pressed as limited edition 12” vinyl, packaged with sleeves featuring his ongoing abstract color work.
