Whats on Grey's Worktable Tonight? 10-14-17
Tonight I am starting two new head sculptures in the "Seeking Absolution" series. This series started out as an experiment in the heating and melting process of a simple styrofoam wig head. By applying heat in different ways, each of the heads takes on a unique form of its own. By also using natural clay, I can mold features into each head to produce even more unique features. The goal was merely experimentation but the series took on a life of its own and is eventually destined to be donated to an AIDS charity around Christmas time. Each finished head is mounted on a 6" x 6" tile base which gives it weight and balance. Some of these may also be mounted on 8" high pedestals. Each head takes about a week to complete because the melting process of the styrofoam needs to be carefully controlled or else you end up with a pile of styro-goop.
Comments and questions on the process are always welcomed and shared.
