Time Intruding explores the merging of 19th century photographs with modern day photography and art. United States copyright law allows the open use of photographs taken before January of 1923.
The images are carefully reworked and resized to fit the newer format. Its extremely emotional to work with these faces from the past. In a way it feels like I am bringing a bit of their spirits back to life and saving them from being lost in time. Its also challenging to my skills as an artist to merge the past and the present.
I use my own photos for the present settings. I wish I could cite the original photographers of the old photos but sadly most of these talented photographers of the dawn of photography have long since vanished, leaving only these images behind to remind us of their skills. I have included the original source photo with each piece.
If you ever see a photo that you think might be proprietary, please let me know immediately so the image can be investigated and removed if necessary.
