Whats on Grey's Worktable Tonight? 11-09-17
Tonight I've moved the newest deadwood sculpture into the studio. Its now been mounted on a tile base. The wood is in the final phases of cleaning and curing. The next step is unusual. Using a heatgun, I will blast the wood in stages until it is completely black. I will then use a toothbrush to buff the charcoal until it begins to shine. I've done this on other occasions. By doing it this way instead of just painting it black, I think it gives it a much deeper feel and the black is truer black than paint would be. Its touchy business though and I have to make sure I don't set fire to the wood...or the studio. WIP photos later in the process.
