Born in China and raised in Los Angeles, California, Gwen Davis creates digital pop art as a way to assimilate herself into the American culture. She is heavily influenced by pop culture such as Reality Television. Andy Warhol and Signe Pierce are a few artists who she identifies with, due to their color palettes and commentary on pop culture and consumerism. Abstract and surrealist art is common in her work which showcase her perception on the warped and dreamlike world she lives in. She is a self-taught digital and performance artist who uses Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premier, AVID, and digital photography as her mediums, because they are primary mediums of today. She prefers to appropriate bland and mundane situations to benefit herself and her audience.
