I finished the block I made using Highlight #konacotton as a 12" mini #quilt. There were lots of modern blocks (by modern, I mean improv, minimal, and other styles I have no words for) on IG using this new colour, and mine really stood out as 'trad'. lol
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy looking at many styles of quilt, but when it comes to making improv or minimal, I can't get my head around it. Maybe one day it'll come to me?
It's an old block, this, called 'Poppies' and I messed with it a tad. The flowers were #epp and then appliqued with YLI 100g silk. The stems I stitched in the Japanese manner I've seen in Quilt Japan magazines; you prepare your strips, bias or straight grain as required, hand stitch one side down as you would a normal seam, and then fold it into place to applique the other side. Eliminates all those tedious pins that delight in ripping open whatever they can stick their points into.
Like a proper Sewciopath, I'm plotting a repeat with fussy cut fabrics to make them resemble poppies a bit more. Maybe an oriental, or blue-and-white bowl? You know, when I have a minute...
