As most of you know, The Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show was last Saturday with another 6 days leading up to the "big day." On the big day we were treated with a display of 1200 plus quilts on the buildings of downtown Sisters Oregon.
There is more than just the "Big Day" at the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show.
One recent addition to quilt show week has been the events on Sunday -- also know as Save it for Sunday or Quilt Show Sunday depending on who you talk to. The Sunday event hosted and sponsored by Five Pine Lodge and Conference Center is a really intimate and up close affair with a guest quilter, their story and of course their quilts.
This year we were treated with an inspirational and emotional lecture by Rob Appell!
Rob walked us through his journey as a person, husband, father, quilter, friend of the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show and the personal struggles and bumps in the road he has endured in getting to where he is today. His fast pace and humorous talk made many in the packed house, laugh, cheer, clap and tear up a time or two. Rob is a talented quilter with a passion for the industry, education and reaching out and building community for the continuation of the art form.
Rob has many passions, besides quilting and surfing and one that he spoke of yesterday is his ongoing efforts to raise $25,000 for Operations Homefront. The nonprofit, serving America's Military Families, whose mission is to build strong, stable, and secure military families so they can thrive — not simply struggle to get by — in the communities they have worked so hard to protect. There are so many Veterans that are in need. The organization is close to his heart.
