For the second issue of the href zine, we are calling for artists, researchers, scientists, writers, publishers and activists to enter their work to the following topics:
Nature, Technoid Landscapes, Symbioses
We encourage to enter works that examine or reflect on concepts or ideas regarding the relation of nature, cultures and technologies.
“Nature and culture are reworked; the one can no longer be the resource for appropriation or incorporation by the other“
Donna Haraway in A Cyborg Manifesto (1985)
„Any idea we conceive as fact or truth is integrated into an entire style of thought, of which we are usually unaware. Call the cultural constraints ‚trained incapacities,‘ ‚thought collectives,‘ ‚social constructions of reality.‘ Call the dominating inhibitions that determine our point of view whatever you wish. They affect all of us, including scientists.“
Lynn Margulis in the introduction to The Symbiotic Plant: A New Look At Evolution (1998)
“If nature is unjust, change nature!”
Laboria Kubonics in Xenofeminism. A Politics for Alienation - 0x1A (2015)
„The Patriarchy is in the algorithms“
Claire Fitzsimmons
@msfitz on her Instagram (2019)
Technology cannot be neutral. Tools and technologies are designed to follow a purpose. They carry the agenda of their creator. Therefore highlighting and censorship will be executed according to their ideology. The more one differs from this constructed normative the more their needs and desires will be invalidated.
This, however, is not only applied on human-made technologies but also on western science, our general view on nature, on the hierarchical relationship of humankind and nature and how this separation is preserved to justify the still ongoing implementation of superiority.
We are looking for works that offer artistic, scientific, utopian, personal, critical, queer or curious perspectives on technologies and their surroundings, environments, related beings and natures.
You can enter whatever makes sense to you: a poem, renderings, a photo series, a meaningful chat or browser history, your personal feminist manifesto, a scientific paper, a website, a design concept for symbiotic sex toys, a movie, ...
