I have fond memories of playing Gran Turismo and Gran Turismo 2 on the first Playstation. Specifically, I have fond memories of the dirt rally stages. Wonderful hazy memories of late Saturday and Sunday nights, drinking and smoking way too much, when a buddy and I realized that we could "cheat" the rally stages by entering crazy overpowered Porsches (RUF). While the game set up the rally events for you to ideally enter "rally liveried cars", the only actual entry requirements for the stages were high HP, dirt tires and All Wheel Drive.
Porsche = DINGDINGDING! Ha!
We would lap and lap and lap the competitors. Kitted in our shiny, beautiful, whale tailed, low slung Porsches, kicking up mud everywhere, trying to see how fast we could slide through the straightaways. It was hilarious.
We eventually found that we didn't even have to turn in at corners, we could, as we coined it, "Guardrail Right" or "Guardrail Left" around the outside edge. Since there was no in game damage model there was no need to brake. We'd just plow into the edge of the guardrail at the beginning of the turn and your overpowered monstrosity would push around the corner without any effort on your part.
Then, sometime before sunrise, one of us would eventually pass out mid-turn with the controller still in their hand.
Hey, eventually I learned what an apex was but at the time... whatever, those were great times.
Turns out we weren't too far off in our thinking... PORSCHE RALLY STAGES 4EVER!
