I love @budnitzbicycles. I love that Paul @budnitz had the audacity to circumvent all rational methods of entering a new market. As best I can tell he simply woke up, said I want to make the most beautiful bikes in the world, and then he did it. That's hardcore.
And Paul has been pestering me ever since I rode one of his titanium beauties to work with him on some sort of bike design. And to be honest, I found a bicycle was a bit of a conundrum. While I love the lines of a sexy bike, it's details defy the thick and chunky styling that immediately come to my mind. I couldn't exactly wrap the thing in fairings Akira style, no matter how much that appealed to me. That wouldn't be practical. I had some other initial ideas but for whatever the reason I couldn't quite wrap my head around the thing. So I told Paul I'd think about it, I'd put it on the back burner, I'd get back to him. That was a good 2 years ago.
And this morning, I woke up and a little bell went off. I got it now.
So be the damnable creative spirit. Usually, I can or may have to force a design out of my noggin under time constraints. I may actually thrive on that pressure. It's addictive.
But in those precious moments, standing in the shower, half asleep, where a conflux of brain patterns coalesce and a design just formulates itself without any pressure. Awwwww... that's the good shit right there. )
