Bio/Statement: Niko Heiskanen is a half-Finnish, half-Chinese artist, born in Beijing and currently residing in Seattle, Washington as a freshman in college. His primary choice in medium and content reflects his mixed ethnicity, blending a medium inspired by Chinese brush-painting, whilst drawing some formal inspiration from western art history. His work focuses on conveying emotion through the production and evaluation of line, value, form, and movement instead of explicitly conveying emotion from recognizable facial and physical expressions. He wishes to progress further into his study of conveying emotion--or the lackthereof--in line through looking internally through his past, and evoking emotions and reactions through the broad spectrum of human expression itself--from indifference to much stronger feelings. The use of said mediums and content are a direct self-expression from Heiskanen, himself, displaying his works as acts of both human emotional evaluation and his personal vulnerability.
