My name is Alicia Quimby. I just received a BFA in both Fiber Arts and Painting from Massachusetts College of Art and Design. I am currently residing and making in Boston, MA.
I thrive off of making different things, putting them together, and playing with how they interact. The complexity of combining materials and processes excites me. Whether it is through the layering of materials, embedding perspective in woven forms, stretching surfaces, or creating structures, I am using technology to bridge the gap between painting and fiber art.
I strive to create work that causes physiological responses to viewers; work that can affect an onlookers mind and body is very powerful. These three images represent the great breadth of what I make. Though the materials and processes change from piece to piece, the exploration is related in regards to my goals of playing with illusion, form, materiality and perception. My pieces challenge perception and help viewers recognize that it is subject to change.
