SMILES THAT MATTER
Shot this during one of my freelancing assignments. I was helping a school for the underprivileged establish its online presence for funding. The assignment involved showcasing their facilities such as computers as well as method of teaching. Coming from a country which doesn't have a national language due to diversity, English is a luxury and dream for the lower factions of the society.
The school was located near a slum. Like an average Joe, I expected dirt and chaos and just like an average Joe, I was proved wrong. The students made an effort to speak in English (something that is uncommon even in first grade schools) and greeted me with warmth. They did not swarm me like a moth to a tube light. They were curious and most of all, they were happy that someone is visiting.
Picture speaks a thousand words. I used to sneak out of school for movies. These kids sneaked out of class (under the pretext of drinking water) and peeped into one of the classes. I could see them from the corner of my eyes and shot this minutes before they were chased back to class. India is as surprising a place to me as it is to foreigners
