I live in a metropolis but there's a substantial stretch of wild Florida coast line only a few hours drive from me. It's a beautiful thing.
It has miraculously avoided development. Much of it falls within Everglades National Park and Biscayne National Park.
There's a stark contrast between it and this city. Like night and day.
My "nature" says I belong there more than I do here.
The coast is dotted with mangrove islands and a mangrove swamp/estuary extends approximately 10 miles inland where it meets the "river of grass"
It is a muddy tangled morass of mangrove, mosquitoes and mud. Crocodiles lurk in the backwater. Secrets remain hidden. Finding your way can be difficult. It is a type of "no-mans land". I love it.
